Sonos has started a new web campaign featuring R&B musician Janelle Monáe as its spokeswoman. Offering a unique take on the music listening experience, Sonos has created the Sonos Multi-Room Music System. The system has a “Hi-Fi” wireless structure that allows the same or different songs to play simultaneously in different rooms.
Earlier this year, the company raised a stunning $135 million in financing, led by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Redpoint Ventures, and Elevation Partners. Previous investments equaled less than half of that amount.
Now, with $45 million in primary financing to dedicate toward growth, Sonos has launched its new campaign. The first commercial features Monáe and members of her Wondaland Arts Society having a house party. Monáe uses her Hi-Fi multi-room Sonos system to easily choose songs and set the mood in every room of the house.
In a second commercial, Monáe goes more behind the scenes to talk about how Sonos has improved her own listening experience and allowed her to be the mastermind behind what’s playing. She compliments the sleek, minimalist design of the speakers and the ease of control the system offers.
Monáe was also chosen as the newest spokeswoman for CoverGirl in August of this year. She has offered the public community a different definition of what being a woman looks like, stating, “I don’t believe in men’s wear or women’s wear, I just like what I like. And I think we should just be respected for being an individual…” Known for her signature tuxedo wardrobe, Monáe is well respected and liked, and is the perfect advocate for Sonos.
